After
being canceled in 1965 by the authorities, the Beatle will perform in
Tel Aviv on September 25.
Paul McCartney will finally play in
Israel. The former Beatle will perform in Tel Aviv on September 25. In 1965, the
band would play during a world tour. The cancellation
at the last minute had been formally held because of financial problem. In reality, the
authorities of the day had canceled for security reasons related to the
Beatlemania and "opportunities for corruption" of the Israeli youth
group.
Israel's ambassador to the United Kingdom told the Daily
Telegraph that the country wanted to correct a "historic opportunity
missed". In early 2008, Israeli authorities had formally apologized to
Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, the two remaining Beatles alive and to
the families of John Lennon and George Harrison. The singer will
pay 2.7 million euros (four million dollars).
