Paul Rocks the Roundhouse Theater + VIDEO.

Sometimes things just slip through the cracks around here.  We forgot to report that Paul McCartney rocked out at the Roundhouse Theatre last week.  For someone who is not touring, Paul sure is racking up those promotional appearances and one-off gigs to promote the latest album, which is being released soon in super-extra-deluxe edition.  The setlist is not too different from the promotional gigs Paul and the gang performed earlier in the year, but it’s nice to see that he’s mixing things up a little bit.

Paul McCartney again classical

Found on http://blog.choralnet.org

So Paul McCartney has written yet another oratorio:

Ecce Cor Meum, the classical oratorio former Beatle Paul McCartney wrote for his late wife Linda, will make its Canadian debut Friday in London, Ont., with a performance featuring more than 230 singers.

It is only the third performance worldwide for the choral piece, which won the best album award at the Classical Brits this May.

Excuse me if I'm cynical, despite the award; McCartney's track record in turning his knack for writing catchy three-minute songs into major choral works is about as impressive as Arthur Sullivan's. But maybe he's surprise me this time.

Paul McCartney Plays Beatles Classics At Roundhouse Gig

Paul McCartney Plays Beatles Classics At Roundhouse Gig

Sir Paul McCartney rolled out Beatles classics such as ‘Hey Jude’ and ‘The Long and Winding Road’ at his intimate show at the Camden Roundhouse last night.

The event was part of the BBC Electric Proms and saw Macca enjoy banter and plenty of cringe-worthy quips in front of the 3,000 strong crowd. At one moment, he bellowed: "There must be a full moon, because we're howling! How-wooooo!" Ouch.

Despite the appearance of a number of Beatles numbers (also including ‘Eleanor Rigby’, ‘I’ve Got A Feeling’, ‘Follow The Sun’ and the opening ‘Magical Mystery Tour’), the set was heavily weighted towards his lesser known solo efforts and also the odd Wings track.

McCartney at Olympia

McCartney at Olympia

Paul McCartney has returned to the Olympia Concert Hall in Paris for a show, forty years after he last played there with the Beatles.

While promoting the show, he also spoke about downloadable music and how it's just another way of selling music.

Music by the Beatles is, so far, unavailable for sale on popular digital music distribution services like Apple's iTunes.

'I think it's good, you know. For me, as I said before, we started off when you made vinyl records, and then they put everything on tape cassette, and then it became on CDs, and now its downloading. So, for me, it doesn't make much difference, its just another medium,' Sir Paul said.

The former Beatle also told reporters even though his latest album is called Memory Almost Full, it's not a sign of imminent retirement for him.

MCCARTNEY PLANS LONDON EYE MAKEOVER

Tourism bosses in Britain are in talks with SIR PAUL MCCARTNEY over the former BEATLE's plans to rename the London Eye landmark as part of a publicity campaign surrounding his upcoming DVD anthology. Marketing bosses behind the DVD launch have reportedly approached the London Eye bosses with a view to rechristening the big wheel attraction on the banks of the River Thames the MCCartney Eye. They also hope to beam the artwork for the cover of the DVD, which features the rocker's eye, onto the landmark in November (07) for the duration of the launch events. A source tells Britain's The Mirror newspaper, "It's ambitious but his people are determined to make it happen and Sir Paul may even perform a one-off show in one of the pods to make it even more special."

McCartney Still Inspires

By Melinda Newman - ReZoom's Music Columnist

McCartney_Still_Inspires
McCartney performing at Amoeba.
Here’s what I believe about music. I believe music can save your soul. At those times when absolutely nothing else can reach you, music can. When it feels like all hope is lost, a note, a voice, a melody can bring you back to safety. Brian Wilson called “Smile,” his legendary unfinished album (until 2004, at least) “a teenage symphony to God.” I believe the reverse: that through artists like Wilson and Springsteen and, of course, some of the world’s greatest classical composers, God is writing symphonies to us as a way to comfort us, soothe us and make his presence known.

Everything I believe about music I felt on June 27 when Paul McCartney played at Amoeba Records in Hollywood. Incredibly, it was his first time ever playing at a record store.

After the announcement of the surprise free show 48 hours in advance, folks began camping out in front of Amoeba for the 400 or so wristbands that would allow entry. Online reports claimed that at times 3,000 people were in line. The crowd was made up of ages from three to 70. A number of dads brought their little sons in what will surely be a bonding moment, even if the tots don't actually remember the concert.
